When you first start sourcing from China, you will likely encounter two types of companies: sourcing agents and trading companies. They may look similar on the surface — both can help you procure products and ship them abroad — but the real value they deliver is dramatically different. Choosing the wrong one can cost you 10-30% of your order value.
A sourcing agent works for YOU. The factory invoices you directly, and our service fee is listed separately — you always know exactly where your money goes. A trading company buys from the factory first, then resells to you. The margin (typically 10-30%) is buried in the unit price, and you never see the factory's real cost.
Here is a concrete example: you want to source fabric, the factory quotes $2/meter. If you go through a trading company, they might charge you $2.4-$2.6/meter and tell you "that's the factory price." But with a sourcing agent, the factory price stays at $2/meter, and our service fee might be just $0.2/meter — you save $0.2-$0.4/meter, and you know you are paying the factory price.
Quality inspection is equally important. A trading company's QC is self-inspection — they check their own goods. A sourcing agent's QC is done on YOUR behalf — we represent your interests, and if we find problems, we go back to the factory and demand rework. The incentive behind these two types of QC is fundamentally different.
Here is a simple test: ask the company "Who issues the commercial invoice?" If they hesitate or say "We issue it," that is a trading company. A sourcing agent will clearly state: the invoice goes directly to the buyer — that is you.
Another test: ask if they have stock on hand. If they say "yes, we have ready stock," you are likely dealing with a trading company. Sourcing agents do not hold inventory — we are the bridge between the factory and you, nothing more.
Shaoxing Chungde is a sourcing agent, not a trading company. We do not buy and resell products. We represent you. You want a factory — we negotiate for you, we inspect on your behalf, we arrange shipping. The factory invoices you directly. Our service fee is listed separately in the quote — transparent, no hidden margin.
